Crown ditch & the prairie castle
Exhibition Design, 2024
Fashion Institute of Technology M.A.
This pop-up exhibition brings to life Kyler Zeleny’s photo series and subsequent book, “Crown Ditch and the Prairie Castle” (2020) to the public. Designed as a traveling installation, the exhibition alternates between a hyper rural and hyper urban context. Visitors are able to explore Zeleny’s work through various photos, audio, and essay components within the exhibition space, a refinished farming silo.
“Gone are the early remnants of the Canadian prairies but its legacy still endures. Crown Ditch and the Prairie Castle documents the spaces and people of the last great ‘proving out’. The project presents the space as an understudied region, a beast upon itself, a unique meeting of landscape, industry, and most importantly, people, who are a resilient breed created by generational lessons in fortitude and fortuned circumstance.”

Project Ask: A fast concept design that will incorporate the basic deliverables for research, diagramming, thumbnails, basic 3D model, and small drafting package for a 100sf space.
Big Idea: No place is “nothing.”
Much like the photo series itself, this intervention creates place where many consider there to be none.
